To keep your swim and water polo suits performing at their best, S&R Sport recommends you follow these simple guidelines. High-performance fabrics are built for durability, but proper care will extend their life and maintain fit, color, and strength.
After Every Use
- Rinse immediately in cold, fresh water to remove chlorine, salt, and sweat
- Gently squeeze out excess water; do not wring or twist
- Hang dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area
- Do not leave suits rolled in towels, bags, or lockers while damp
Washing Guidelines
- Hand washing is recommended with mild detergent
- If machine washing:
- Use a delicate cycle
- Wash in cold water (max 86°F / 30°C)
- Place the suit in a mesh wash bag
- Wash separately from rough items (zippers, Velcro, towels)
- Turn suits inside out before washing
Do Not:
- Use bleach or fabric softener
- Soak for extended periods
- Tumble dry or dry clean
- Iron
Drying & Storage
- Air dry only, never use a dryer
- Avoid direct sunlight, which can fade colors and weaken fabric
- Store fully dry in a cool, ventilated space
- Never store damp suits in sealed bags or containers
Avoid to Protect Your Suit
- Rough surfaces (pool decks, lane lines, walls, benches)
- Velcro, zippers, or abrasive materials
- Excessive friction, which can cause pilling
Note: Pilling is caused by abrasion and is not a manufacturing defect.
Lotions, Oils & Chemicals
- Apply sunscreen, lotions, or oils 15 minutes before putting on your suit
- Avoid direct contact with:
- Sunscreen
- Tanning oils
- Body lotions
- Hair products
These can break down fibers, especially suits containing spandex or elastic blends.
Additional Performance Tips
- Rotate suits if training frequently to extend lifespan
- Rinse after heavy sweating to prevent fiber breakdown
- Chlorine exposure over time will naturally wear down all swim fabrics
