Steve began his playing career at Harvard-Westlake School before heading to UCLA in 1985. Water polo highlights include scoring goals in both conference wins against cross-town rival USC as a senior, a silver medal as the starting 2M defender for the 1989 USA Maccabiah Team in Israel, leading Waitakere City WPC in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1990, and winning multiple National Championships as a player and coach for the Harvard WPF in the 1990s and 2000s. He was named a USAWP All-American 10 times and the 2015 USAWP Zone Masters Player of the Year. As a coach, highlights include starting the youth component of the HWPF in 1991, where he mentored numerous All-Americans and assisted with Harvard-Westlake’s 1991 CIF championship. Steve dipped back into coaching in Palos Verdes from 2012 – 2021 with the local age group club and high school teams. Professionally, Steve co-founded S&R Sport in 1992, which was the “The Official Aquatic Retailer of USAWP” for years, and has become the leading distributor of many major water polo brands in the US over the last 31 years.
